Tips For Self-Care in The Winter
“The wise nourish life by flowing with the four seasons and adapting to cold or heat, by harmonizing joy and anger in a tranquil dwelling, by balancing yin and yang, and what is hard and soft. So it is that dissolute evil cannot reach the man of wisdom, and he will be witness to a long life.” – Huangdi Neijing Suwen
Winter is for some not the most enjoyable season to endure. The sky is darker, things start to move slower and the indoors is your retreat. This time of year can bring up triggering emotions and I’ve started to incorporate simple practices in my life to help me take care of myself during this winter month! I’m here today sharing these pratices with you!
Let’s DO THIS TOGETHER:
We all need to give Marie Kondo a big hug for coming out with her Netflix show this time of year because honestly, this is the perfect time of year to clean out those cabinets, donate that wardrobe you’ve been hanging onto for years and for god sakes please clean out that garage!
The winter is the perfect opportunity to do this, it takes your mind off the weather and onto something productive that’s going to make you feel accomplished and fulfilled with your day.
Now your first dose of motivation would be to either read Marie Kondos book or watch her Netflix show.
Even just one episode will get you moving or at least thinking about it!
This time of year is great to acknowledge introspection and find time to analysis, brainstorm and take note on how you are actually feeling in terms of where you are at in life, how you feel about certain subjects, that you get presented with regularly. Take steps toward re-aligning yourself with anything that may feel off or needs redirection or changing. Make time to take a moment and go inwards. This doesn’t have to be a grand project but seriously take 20 minutes or more to start jotting down anything that you may not feel aligned with and 1 action step towards making that shift.
Join A Class / Onlne Course
It’s the perfect time to take that class you have been meaning to sign up for – example; joining that modern dance yoga hybrid class that you’ve wanted to try since forever. We need to push ourselves because it’s inevitable that we will want to stay inside, most of the time. Joining a class will get you out and even if it’s once a week, it will make a big difference in your mood and feel empowering!
I’m also not saying it is bad to stay indoors but focusing on something productive is really what I’m getting at.
Maybe, it’s time to sign up for the online course you have been meaning to take? Need to brush up on your photo editing skills!?
There are tons of free online classes that you can join.
I’ve been loving Udemy for online courses – they have discounts all the time! (not sponsored, just seriously love it)
Make a calendar
I’ve gotten kinda obsessed with my calendar, but it’s so helpful to know what you have going on and be able to schedule time for rest, create a clear visual on how much time you actually have in your day because I personally don’t think work, sleep, eat on repeat is healthy for anyone. Looking at it from a calendar perspective will help you fill your time with positivity, feeling accomplished and this is not just in the winter!
Prioritize your health
This is a great one because if you have benefits they’ve probably reset or maybe you have just been putting off the dentist forever and that one tooth isn’t feeling right?
Take this time to schedule those appointments and get as healthy as you can to enjoy those warmer months.
Prioritizing your health all year round is definitely key, but I wanted to add it to the list to stress how important it is when it comes to self-care! I’ve been there, and I put it off for years which is a place I’ll never go back to now!
Self Love Empowerment Guide
Anna and I have created a self-love empowerment guide for the month of February because we are in the thick of winter and think it’s the perfect time to share our knowledge with you + a few love-inspired recipes, of course! As well it is a perfect time to go inwards, we are well aware that L-O-V-E is a huge topic this month and we want to help you wherever you are at. This will be a great tool for you if you’re looking for a place to start when it comes to self-care and really channelling your intuition to feel incredibly empowered to make YOU a priority. The relationship we have with ourselves is so important. This guide is completely free – just take the leap!
